Professor Dr. Thomas Rakow teaches computer science methods for basics and applications in the area of databases and e-business. He is a professor in the media department at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (UAS). In the "Taschenbuch Datenbanken" he is represented with a chapter on "Databases on the Web" (in German). He advises in various research programs on the evaluation of applications. Prof. Rakow works with companies on website development and project management.
Before his appointment, Professor Rakow led numerous national and international projects in companies in the information and telecommunications industry, in publishing houses and in large-scale research. For the Springer publishing house in Heidelberg, Prof. Rakow led the development of the LINK portal and the website of the Springer publishing group springeronline.com. At the GMD Research Center for Information Technology (later Fraunhofer Institute) in Darmstadt, Professor Rakow developed and led a ggroup on object-oriented and multimedia database systems.
Professor Rakow received his diploma in computer science from the Technical University Braunschweig and his doctorate in engineering from the Technical University Darmstadt. His dissertation deals with the topic "Semantic Concurrency Control in object-oriented database systems" (in German).
