Audio Engineering Professor
David Ackermann is a professor of audio engineering at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (HSD). He received his Dr rer nat. in 2024 from Technische Universität Berlin for a dissertation on dynamic sound sources in virtual acoustic reality. He has been involved in research and teaching on the Master's programme in Audio Communication and Technology. Previously, he earned an MSc in Audio Communication and Technology (TU Berlin) and a BEng in Telecommunications Engineering (HTW Berlin), having completed vocational training as an event technology specialist.
Alongside his academic work, he has worked as a freelance audio engineer and acoustics consultant since 2012. His work ranges from studio production and sound design (with over 40 releases and productions in electronic music) to live sound engineering for tours, as well as room acoustic design, measurement, and simulation for studios, venues, offices, and public buildings. He has collaborated with industry partners such as Georg Neumann and AFMG in research and transfer projects, and received the AES Best Technical Demonstration Award in 2016. He is a member of the German Acoustical Society (DEGA) and serves as a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG), JASA, EURASIP and Acta Acustica.
