Holger Schmidt studied mathematics at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster. He then worked at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he received his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. in February 2010. In the academic field, teaching and research activities followed at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Technical University of Dortmund and at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He also had a teaching assignment at the Applied University of Bochum.
This was followed by activities as a consultant for IT security, first as a freelancer, then at the ITESYS - Institut für technische Systeme GmbH in Dortmund, and most recently as senior IT security consultant at TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH, a company of the TÜV Nord Group, in Essen.
Since August 2015, Holger Schmidt is a Professor of Computer Science, esp. IT Security at the Faculty of Media of the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf and a freelance consultant for IT security. His research interests are characterized by the integration of information security, the human factor and methods and methods of software engineering.
